Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated Therapeutic Recreation Program Coordinator to join our team at North East Medical Services. This role is responsible for coordinating and implementing comprehensive therapeutic recreation programs for PACE participants, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and implement day center social programming and activities, including communicating current events and organizational issues to participants in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Conduct assessments and participate as an active member of the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) for Participant care planning, establishing individualized goals specific to social and recreational therapeutic programs.
  • Work closely with the Center Manager to oversee all activities in the day room, optimizing a safe environment while mitigating risks-factors such as falls and wandering.
  • Remain alert to pertinent input from other team members, Participants, and caregivers, updating the IDT promptly regarding any changes in Participants' condition or medical status.
  • Document progress reports in the Participant's electronic health record.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee the daily Recreation Program, including both group and individual activities, as well as periodic community outings, coordinates volunteer activities at the Center and collaborates with a Recreational Therapist.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the age-related characteristics, symptoms, and needs of participants served, providing clear and effective communication with the Participants, and working with other therapists and primary care staff to enhance the day center experience of participants.
  • Build relationships and coordinates activity programs from various community resources, arranging performances, coordinating Holiday celebrations, schedules activity instructors, classes, etc., working within department budget.
  • Build a sense of community and a warm, social atmosphere in which participants feel welcome and supported.
  • Understand and demonstrate respect for Participants' rights, utilizing established mechanisms for managing any ethical issues related to Participant services.
  • Provide care to Participants in-person, via telehealth, and/or via telephone, as indicated.
Requirements:
  • At least two years of experience in a social recreational or educational program within the past five years, one year of which was full-time in an activities program in a health care, mental health, or handicapped program setting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Recreational/Art/Music/Dance Therapy, Psychology, Social Work or a related human services field from an accredited university or college.
  • Current BLS and First Aid required.
  • Knowledge of social activities, including programming tailored to the older adult population.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least 1 year of experience working with the frail or elderly population.
  • Certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification or the California Recreation Therapist (RTC).
  • Strong understanding of the psychosocial dynamics in aging.
Estimated Salary Range:

$65,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
