Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our team at Think Whole Person Healthcare. As a Phlebotomist, you will play a critical role in providing a safe and pleasant patient experience while performing proper sterile technique during specimen acquisition.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greet and educate patients on the procedure, ensuring they are comfortable and informed throughout the process.
  • Identify patients and tests, generate and confirm correct labels, and affix them on specimen containers according to laboratory policies.
  • Assemble necessary equipment, select veni-puncture equipment appropriate for test orders, and properly clean sites with antiseptic prior to obtaining samples.
  • Draw blood specimens, document, and prepare them for transport to the lab, adhering to universal precautions.
  • Monitor patients' reactions to the procedure and take appropriate measures to calm anxiety or fear.
  • Properly treat puncture sites and dispose of all sharps, dirty equipment, and personal protective equipment.
  • In Electronic Health Records (EHR), monitor daisy chain, accurately check patients in and out of the system, and release patient orders to be sent to the Laboratory Information System (LIS) system.
  • In LIS, validate orders and release labels for specimens and document PT/INR results in EHR when appropriate.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of phlebotomy procedures and equipment, accessioning, verifying specimens, and specimen requirements.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules.
  • Skill in communicating in a professional manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in planning, organizing, and time management.
  • Skill in using a computer and various software, including EHR software, Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
  • Skill in managing multiple priorities and problem-solving.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet established goals and objectives.
  • Ability to maintain high levels of professional and personal integrity.
  • Ability to convey a professional demeanor and sound judgment in dealing with patients' care, protection of patient privacy, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to act as a good representative of the company.
Education and Experience

A high school diploma or GED is required, along with American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification. A minimum of two years of experience in phlebotomy, utilizing electronic Health Records (EHR), is also required.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort
  • This role operates in a healthcare setting, requiring frequent standing, walking, and computer work.
  • The employee must be able to stand for 75% or longer of the workday, walk for 15% or longer, and sit for 10% of the workday.
  • The employee must be able to lift and maneuver up to 35 pounds occasionally.
  • The employee must be able to bend, squat, kneel, and reach above shoulder level occasionally and twist occasionally.
  • The employee must use repetitive hand movements for simple grasping, fine manipulation, and computer use.
  • The employee must have all sensory skills (speech, vision, smell, touch, and hearing) corrected to near normal range.
