Infection Prevention Specialist

Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County is committed to fostering a culture of excellence in infection prevention and control.
The Infection Prevention Coordinator plays a critical role in this effort, responsible for the daily management of infection prevention and control activities.
This position has the clinical authority to identify, investigate, report, and control nosocomial infections among patients and personnel.
The Infection Prevention Coordinator is responsible for performing outreach, follow-up, and coordination of post-discharge care for patients with positive cultures.
They will also educate and communicate with patients regarding nosocomial infection prevention and treatment options.
This position assists with functional areas such as performance improvement and quality measures related to infection control and prevention, Joint Commission accreditation, physician peer review data, surgical case review, and/or data abstraction/interpretation/results improvement.
The ideal candidate will have a current RN license with BSN preferred, or a Master's in Public Health (MPH), or certified medical technologist, or a bachelor's degree in microbiology or epidemiology.
Two years of clinical experience or demonstrated progressive accountability and leadership abilities are preferred.
Certification in the area of clinical expertise is required within 2 years of accepting the position.
The Infection Prevention Coordinator will demonstrate ability to clinically problem solve and lead others in coordination of patient care through the patient care system.
They will communicate well using professional techniques and a variety of communication tools.
Able to manage projects, demonstrate time management skills, prioritize work, and use organizational skills to achieve outcomes.
Works as a team member or leader in a variety of situations and teams.
Demonstrates responsibility, accountability, and authority commensurate to position.
Uses critical and creative thinking skills and tools.
Is self-directed and motivated to work toward better outcomes in a situation.

Promotes professional nursing image within the hospital and community.
Works independently and well in a multidisciplinary setting.
Good verbal and written communication skills to maintain good rapport with physicians, hospital administration, nurses, and other health team members.
Computer skills related to data entry, management, retrieval, and presentation.
Familiarity with quality improvement principles and their application.
Knowledge of federal, state, TJC utilization and quality improvement regulations and their application needed.
Ability to accept responsibility, analyze problems, evaluate reports, make decisions, and recommendations.
Ability to demonstrate initiative and good judgment in a self-directed role.
Ability to use and interpret data variance and use statistical data.
Must be flexible and able to manage job functions despite shifting priorities.
