Job Title: RMA Counselor

Richard Milburn Academy is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated RMA Counselor to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic and personal growth of our students.

Job Summary:

The RMA Counselor will work closely with students, parents, and staff to provide guidance and support in understanding graduation requirements, preparing student personal graduation plans, and providing needed information to instructional and assessment staff. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of state test procedures and prior testing experience, as well as a proven ability to work in a polite and friendly manner with a variety of constituencies.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement individualized graduation plans for students
  • Provide guidance and support to students and parents in understanding graduation requirements
  • Assist students in overcoming educational handicaps and preventing dropout
  • Help students evaluate career interests and choices
  • Coordinate state testing at the site
  • Convene parent-teacher conferences as needed
  • Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside of instructional hours
  • Work with the Director of Special Populations to disseminate educational, occupational, and military information consistent with graduation goals
  • Assist students in making applications to college and other post-secondary schools
  • Make recommendations to colleges for admission and financial aid
  • Counsel students in educational and vocational planning
  • Refer students to other schools, community agencies, or professionals capable of rendering services not available at the school
  • Prepare and train personnel for State Assessments per TEA guidelines
  • Attend/serves as the EOC Coordinator for the assigned RMA campus
  • Responsible for the required preparation of individual Graduation Plans and updating the plan within 15 days of all earned credits
  • Assist the Principal with scheduling and conducting parent-student conferences at least annually regarding individual Graduation Plans
  • Enter/Update all high school transcripts into Websmart system in a timely manner
  • Required member of the Campus Improvement Team and the campus Attendance Committee
  • Conduct/approve all schedule changes in each grading period
  • Responsible for informing students and parents of graduation ceremonies and collecting/completing all graduation documentation for central office within the required timelines
  • Responsible for accurately computing GPA's and Class Rankings per RMA guidelines
  • Attend appropriate training(s) regarding graduation requirements as needed
  • Serves as a campus school board member unless the campus is rated Academically Unacceptable by the State
Requirements:
  • A Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university
  • Maintains a valid current certification as a guidance counselor, which is age appropriate for the particular assignment as required by federal, state or local regulations, laws or regulatory bodies
  • At least three (3) years of successful teaching experience preferred, but not required
  • A demonstrated understanding of state test procedures and prior testing experience
  • Prior experience or formal training in working with at-risk students preferred
  • Demonstrated aptitude to perform the tasks listed above
  • A proven ability to work in a polite and friendly manner with a variety of constituencies
Working Hours and Days:
  • Monday through Friday, during normal business hours
