We are seeking a highly skilled Engineering Technician to join our team at the Town of Clayton, NC. As an Engineering Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and safety of our public infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:- Inspect new construction storm drainage for compliance with design specifications.
- Inspect streets for compliance with subgrade compaction and grade, curb and gutter, asphalt thickness, paving and compaction procedure, and overall finished riding surface.
- Schedule inspections with developers and contractors.
- Inspect residential and commercial driveways.
- Inspect public sidewalk and ADA ramps.
- Meet with contractors, engineers, owners, project managers, and architects to review and explain construction requirements.
- Meet with citizens and departments on questions, complaints, and concerns about infrastructure and improvement projects.
- Review and approve as-built record drawings; review final plats for accuracy and conformance with approved land subdivision and dedication of easements as shown on approved construction drawings.
- Provide support to Senior Engineering Technicians as needed to make field modifications, changes to plans, and suggest methods of obtaining compliance based on field conditions.
- Observe field conditions, inspect construction work in progress, and upon completion, for quality of work and adherence to approved plans and specifications.
- Make recommendation of public infrastructure acceptance to the Director and prepare and provide documentation to the Town Clerk for Town Council action.
- Perform project management for Private Development Projects including scheduling, overseeing contractors, reviewing construction material submittals, performing periodic inspections, and other activities related to construction of public infrastructure.
- Coordinate with various Town departments to ensure the sustainability of public improvements and coordinate updates to applicable specifications and standards.
- Provide support for environmental programs such as MS4 permit and erosion and sedimentation control.
- Compile information for Powell Bill and Federal Highway Administration audits on Town project.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree in Engineering Technology preferred.
- Minimum 2 years horizontal site construction experience.
