About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Data Scientist to join our team at Walmart Global Tech. As a key member of our data science team, you will work on pioneering Generative AI projects to solve complex retail challenges.

As a Staff Data Scientist, you will utilize deep learning methods to fine-tune NLP models and collaborate with cross-functional teams to address cutting-edge problems. Your responsibilities will include building NLP and recommendation systems, developing data science models for retail, deploying trained ML models to the cloud, and leading model development efforts.

Our team works closely with our US stores and eCommerce business to better serve customers by empowering team members, stores, and merchants with technological innovation. We are looking for a talented individual who can bring their expertise in data science, machine learning, and optimization to help us drive business growth and improve customer experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deploy AI and machine learning models to drive business growth and improve customer experiences
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address cutting-edge retail problems
  • Build and refine NLP and recommendation systems
  • Develop data science models tailored for retail and e-commerce
  • Deploy trained ML models to the cloud
  • Lead model development efforts and guide team members through building, testing, and deploying ML models at scale

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in data science, machine learning, and optimization models
  • Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or Econometrics
  • Proficiency in Python, Spark, Scala, or R, using open-source frameworks like scikit-learn, TensorFlow, and PyTorch
  • Excellent understanding of AI/ML/DL and Statistics, with strong coding skills in related libraries and frameworks
  • Significant experience with SQL and programming languages such as Python, PySpark, and/or Scala
  • Knowledge of deployment and scaling best practices
  • Effective technical communication skills for non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience leading and mentoring junior associates
