Position Summary:
The Senior Analytical Chemist is accountable for overseeing all project-related tasks within the Analytical Research and Development (ARD) division, which includes sample evaluations and the development, transfer, and validation of methodologies in a secure and dependable manner. This role necessitates the application of fundamental chemistry principles, alongside standard laboratory practices and protocols. The Senior Analytical Chemist should possess strong observational skills and the ability to address more intricate technical challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independently design and validate methodologies in accordance with regulatory standards for raw materials, both during the process and in the final drug substance.
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of ICH Guidelines, including the execution of method validations, verifications, and transfers.
- Employ a range of analytical instruments and techniques, along with basic computer skills, to support project activities as required.
- Develop and qualify analytical methodologies, conducting routine tests such as Karl Fischer (KF), Residual Organic Impurities (ROI), Ultraviolet (UV), and Infrared (IR) spectroscopy under supervision. Familiarity with analytical techniques such as High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography (GC), Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LCMS), and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) is essential.
- Learn and adhere to all necessary Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Acquire knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs).
- Document experimental procedures and outcomes in laboratory notebooks or designated formats.
- Communicate scientific findings and observations to the team leader and engage in client meetings and discussions.
- Understand project management tasks, including material procurement, adherence to timelines, budget management, and achievement of project objectives.
- Operate effectively and efficiently within budgetary limitations.
- Ensure a safe working environment.
- Function appropriately in a controlled substance setting.
- Maintain accurate personal training records.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related field with 1-3 years of relevant industry experience.
- Familiarity with common analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, UV, CAD, IR, KF, LC-MS, Air Jet Sieve, ICP-MS, and ICP-OES.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret English-language chemical literature, scientific journals, and regulatory documents.
- Capability to perform analyses using scientific methods, standard protocols, and instrumentation with some oversight.
- Demonstrate foundational knowledge of analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, and pertinent mathematics at the undergraduate level.
- Proficient in using computers and standard software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, and ChemDraw).
- Ability to conduct work in compliance with company policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Exhibit a willingness to learn new techniques and skills.
- Understand general safety protocols relevant to sample handling, inventory management, and the disposal and shipping of hazardous materials.
- Ability to explain routine laboratory equipment and analysis procedures to others.
- Recognize basic equipment or data output issues and take appropriate actions under direct supervision.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
