Position Overview:
As a Radiologic Imaging Specialist, you will deliver exceptional patient imaging services specific to Nuclear Medicine, adhering to physician directives. Your primary focus will be on ensuring patient safety while providing high-quality diagnostic testing. Responsibilities include preparing Nuclear Medicine facilities for patient procedures, developing imaging films, maintaining inventory levels, and ensuring that all equipment meets manufacturer specifications. You will operate imaging devices in compliance with established safety protocols and exercise professional judgment in the delivery of diagnostic services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Capture high-quality images by utilizing clinical protocols and positioning patients effectively to highlight the area of interest, while prioritizing patient comfort and capabilities. Demonstrate proficiency in conducting Nuclear Medicine procedures using the appropriate technology. Develop films following proper radiographic techniques and assess images for technical quality, ensuring accurate identification is recorded. Provide comprehensive Nuclear Medicine services across all age demographics, including geriatrics, adults, adolescents, and pediatrics. Educate patients on procedures tailored to their age-specific needs, facilitating cooperation and alleviating anxiety. Address patient inquiries and verify the accuracy of procedures by reviewing physician orders and outpatient prescriptions, contacting physicians when discrepancies arise. Ensure all necessary documentation is completed prior to procedures.
- Deliver prompt, expert services to patients, physicians, and colleagues in a friendly and professional manner. Communicate effectively with patients and their companions regarding any delays and the measures being taken to address them. Promote patient-centered care throughout daily operations, ensuring quality patient interactions that include preparation, scheduling, and the administration of radionuclides for various procedures as required. Uphold strict confidentiality standards for both patient and employee information.
- Accurately input patient data into the departmental computer system, selecting the appropriate account and completing necessary tasks for the Nuclear Medicine procedure as directed.
- Adhere to established policies and procedures regarding radiation safety without deviation. Conduct all required equipment checks prior to use to ensure the safety of patients and staff. Maintain compliance with patient and regulatory standards, suggesting improvements to enhance patient outcomes when necessary. Perform quality assurance and quality control tasks as required. Confirm patient identification to prevent repeat studies due to identification errors. Monitor patients during procedures and report any unusual occurrences or changes in their condition to the appropriate personnel. Assess allergy status for patients receiving medications and demonstrate a knowledgeable and swift response to any adverse reactions as outlined in our policies. Assist in emergency first aid procedures as needed, including code response protocols and locating equipment on crash carts. Maintain safe radiation levels at all times.
- Monitor patients throughout procedures, reporting any unusual occurrences or changes in their condition to the appropriate personnel. Arrive at the start of your scheduled shift prepared to work, taking breaks at designated times, and concluding your shift as scheduled. Ensure that the Nuclear Medicine room is kept clean, organized, and well-stocked at all times. Identify training needs among staff and contribute to the development of policies and procedures as appropriate. Communicate concerns to lead technologists and management as necessary. Collaborate effectively with colleagues to perform radiological procedures efficiently. Undertake additional duties as required, rotating shifts and assignments as necessary. Participate in on-call duties as assigned and respond to callbacks in accordance with policy. Comply with all safety protocols, including Personal Protective Equipment, Universal Precautions, Medical Waste Management, Infection Control, and OSHA regulations. Complete quality assurance tasks as required.
Experience
- Minimum of one (1) year of direct experience in nuclear medicine.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a hospital environment.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Radiography required at hire OR Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certificate required at hire.
- Basic Life Support certification required at hire.
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in performing required procedures.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of radiation safety protocols, safety precautions, and infection control practices.
- A commitment to delivering consistent, excellent customer service.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
