Job Overview

Position: Automation Control Technician

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY:
To assist the Stamping, Assembly, and Welding departments by installing, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining all integrated machinery. Contribute to the design and implementation of new integrated systems and help establish a robust preventive and predictive maintenance strategy.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Adhere to ISO / QS 900 & TS16949 standards.
  • Install and evaluate automated processes within the facility, collaborating closely with Engineering to ensure the successful rollout and integration of new systems.
  • Ensure automation equipment operates efficiently, which may include setting up machinery, monitoring performance, and observing indicators for proper functionality.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot software used for automation systems, which may involve virus removal, software reinstallation, or redesign. Responsible for the daily management of these processes, including preventive maintenance and repairs on robots, PLCs, and related equipment.
  • Educate Plant Associates on operating machinery and understanding the underlying processes.
  • Keep technical manuals updated and print instructions for equipment use.
  • May be tasked with writing manuals and procedural documentation.
  • Ensure operators fully comprehend the automated processes relevant to their roles. Mentor Production Associates to enhance their operational skills.
  • Accurately complete time sheets in a timely manner.
  • Participate in daily housekeeping efforts across all areas of the facility.
  • Support the Continuous Improvement initiatives for a preventive and predictive maintenance program for robots and PLC-integrated equipment.
  • Assist in upgrading the skills of Millwrights and Electricians concerning robotics and PLC troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance.
  • Coordinate with external suppliers as necessary for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of automated systems.
  • Utilize best practices in planning assignments to optimize the use of resources, time, and materials.

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • Post-secondary education in engineering is preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Formal education in Robotics and PLC is essential; relevant experience or education is required.
  • Certification from a formal apprenticeship program.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, in a similar role.
  • Proficient knowledge and experience in the repair and maintenance of Robots and PLC systems.

RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS:

  • Collaborate closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Purchasing teams.
  • Be prepared to address safety concerns with Associates.
  • Work effectively with all Associates at various levels within the organization.
