Position Summary:
The Internal Audit Department at the University of New Mexico is on the lookout for a dedicated Internal Auditor. This role presents a unique opportunity for a driven individual to play a vital role within a key independent department. The department operates under the administrative oversight of the UNM President and functions under the guidance of the UNM Board of Regents' Audit and Compliance Committee. The selected auditor will assist UNM personnel in achieving their responsibilities effectively, efficiently, and economically by providing impartial evaluations of the activities under review.
Key Responsibilities:
- Formulate audit strategies and conduct both initial and follow-up audits in line with established professional standards.
- Assess audit results; compile and deliver findings and recommendations to management through both verbal and written communication.
- Collaborate and engage with administrators, faculty, staff, and external audit and law enforcement entities as necessary.
- Advise university administrators, faculty, and staff on operational and administrative matters.
- May oversee and/or mentor junior staff and/or student employees.
- Stay informed about university policies and procedures, current trends in accounting and auditing, and relevant changes in local, state, and federal regulations.
- Perform other job-related tasks as assigned.
Conditions of Employment:

- Compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement is mandatory for employees working in patient care or clinical settings.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience related to the specified duties.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Accounting, MBA, MPA, etc.
- Experience with Banner software.
- Familiarity with electronic work paper software.
- Proficient in spreadsheets, demonstrating the ability to quantify and illustrate routine financial reports, comparisons, impacts, and/or projections.
- Competent in word processing applications.
