PennState Health is a leading healthcare provider seeking a highly skilled Critical Care Specialist to join our team in Hershey, Pennsylvania. As a critical care specialist on our Cardiovascular Unit (CVU), you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and contributing to the success of our cardiac surgery program.

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced intensivist with expertise in managing complex cardiovascular cases, including cardiac surgical procedures such as CABG, valve surgery, LVADS, ECMO, and cardiac transplantation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in critical care medicine, excellent communication skills, and a passion for delivering high-quality patient care.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Directly managing critically ill patients in the CVU, including those requiring advanced therapies such as IABP, Impella, VADs, ECMO, CRRT, Respiratory Ventilators, Inotropes, Vasopressors, and Vasoactive Intravenous Medications.
  • Participating in daily rounds on patients during post-operative phases of care, performing assessments, and making medical management plan revisions in collaboration with physicians, consulted services, nursing, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Performing procedures including placement of A-line, central line, Swan Ganz catheter, removal of IABP, chest tubes, and cardiac pacer wires.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be considered for this exciting opportunity, applicants must have:

  • A graduate degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program or baccalaureate or higher degree program that meets licensure requirements in the State of employment.
  • National Certification in State of employment or in another State with reciprocity and licensure to practice in the State of employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
