About the Role

Mentor Technical Group is seeking a highly skilled Construction Safety Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of our construction personnel and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Safety Orientations: Provide initial EHS Contractor Safety orientation to all construction personnel, ensuring they understand our procedures and can execute required activities safely.
  • Coordinate Permits and Documents: Coordinate all required daily permits with the Construction Manager, ensuring compliance with project schedules and regulations.
  • Evaluate and Approve Documents: Evaluate and approve required EHS documents, such as Job Hazard Analysis, Job Plans, Rigging Plans, and Material Handling, to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Principal Liaison: Serve as the principal liaison between the Project, Contractors, and EHS Department, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Field Inspections: Perform field inspections to ensure all activities are executed to the highest standards required by OSHA, Regulations, and Laws.
  • Advisory Signs and Environmental Controls: Ensure all required advisory signs are displayed to warn construction personnel, pedestrians, and visitors of protective equipment and risks, and implement and maintain environmental controls associated with project permits.
  • Incident Management: Communicate with Construction Manager, Project Manager, and EHS Department in the event of an incident, and manage and control incidents or events.
  • Resource Management: Identify and manage resources capable of handling multiple trades during project execution.
  • Project Walkthroughs and Inspections: Participate in project walkthroughs, inspections, and visits, and prepare reports related to any unsafe conditions.
  • Visitor Log and SDS Requests: Maintain a visitor log and request SDS approval for products used in premises.
  • Safety Updates: Provide updates on safety issues in project meetings.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • 30HRS OSHA Certification: Possess 30HRS OSHA Certification and other certifications that qualify the resource above required qualifications.
  • Education and Experience: Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or Social Science related field, and have relevant experience in construction safety and compliance.
Physical Requirements and Working Environment
  • Physical Demands: Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate equipment, tools, or controls, and frequently required to stand, walk, talk, or hear; sit; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and smell.
  • Working Environment: May frequently work inside weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts, exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, and an odorous atmosphere, and occasionally work on ladders in high places, in small spaces, such as lift/metering stations, manholes, tanks, and wet wells.
