Position Overview

Timmons Group is seeking a qualified Medium Voltage Electrical Engineer II/III to be part of our Power Engineering & System Planning Group.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Developing collector system layout designs for renewable energy projects, which vary in size, complexity, and voltage class.
  • Contributing to proposal preparation and scope development, including:
    • Creating conceptual designs and execution plans.
    • Estimating engineering/project costs and schedules.
    • Executing engineering activities.
  • Collaborating with DC designers or Wind Turbine Layout teams to prepare collector systems, including installation plans and details.
  • Conducting AC cable ampacity calculations and analyzing feeder loading.
  • Providing support for utility interconnections.
  • Preparing IEEE effective grounding studies to ensure safe step-and-touch potentials.
  • Performing arc flash studies and hazard assessments for low and medium voltage systems.
  • Evaluating system short circuit and voltage profiles.
  • Reviewing static reactive capabilities and sizing reactive power equipment accordingly.
  • Conducting lightning shielding studies to protect apparatus against direct strikes.
  • Interfacing with utility companies as needed for capacitor and LTC control designs.
  • Engaging in various studies including transient switching, load flow, power factor, transient over-voltage (TOV), and harmonic analysis.
  • Specifying equipment for procurement and/or factory acceptance testing.
  • Coordinating design activities with other departments such as Civil/Structural, Networks, and Transmission Line.
  • Enhancing processes, tools, and technology implementations.
  • Providing training and mentorship to junior engineers and team members.
  • Participating in 3D modeling/design and industry/professional technical committees as required.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience (a master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience).
  • Engineer In Training Certification or Professional Engineer registration is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with the National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE/ANSI Standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • The capability to address complex problems requiring innovative solutions.
