Position Summary

The primary role of the Clinical Research Assistant is to support the Research Unit in executing clinical trials. This position entails gathering and processing clinical data while providing essential administrative assistance to the Research Team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Research Coordinator to facilitate clinical trials and manage patient flow.
  • Accurately gathers clinical data on research participants and maintains updated records in the database.
  • Assists the Coordinator with monitor preparation and follows up on action items and query resolutions.
  • Contributes to trial recruitment through chart reviews, communication with physicians, and database reporting.
  • Supports regulatory submissions and assists the Regulatory Specialist as necessary.
  • Works alongside Fellows and Physicians on research initiatives and data collection.
  • Maintains temperature logs for medication storage areas and reports any discrepancies.
  • Handles administrative tasks for the Research Department, including phone management, appointment scheduling, and supply ordering.
  • Conducts telephone screenings of potential research subjects.
  • Assists in screening research participants with guidance from the Coordinator.
  • Regular and predictable on-site attendance is required.
  • May require overtime work as needed.
  • Travel to other locations may be necessary.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory Duties

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.


Work Environment

This role operates within a professional office setting, routinely utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.


Physical and Cognitive Requirements

  • This position is highly active and requires standing and walking throughout the day to assist patients and support physicians.
  • Regular verbal communication is necessary, both in group settings and one-on-one interactions.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Ability to sustain physical contact with individuals to provide guidance as needed.
  • Strong attention to detail is required for data processing and documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical research experience or experience in an ophthalmic setting.
