Solar Maintenance Technician Job Description

RWE Clean Energy, LLC is seeking a skilled Solar Maintenance Technician to join our team. As a key member of our operations and maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance on our solar power plants.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Test, maintain, and troubleshoot solar PV electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Ensure all tasks are performed safely and in accordance with site operating procedures
  • Complete Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO), JSA's, Permit to Work, and job-specific documentation required for inspection, maintenance, and repairs
  • Proactively identify improvement opportunities in job-specific processes and procedures
  • Perform data collection and prepare reports to meet reporting requirements
  • Perform balance of plant and switchyard work as required
  • Monitor the activities of maintenance contractors and ensure corrective actions where necessary
  • Perform electrical testing as required, including insulation and thermal testing
  • Document all work and generate reports as necessary
  • Use Microsoft Office for communication, presentation, and documentation
  • Use computer software in support of maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Identify gaps in safety standards and safety risks in the environment
  • Assist with BOP activities as required
  • Respond quickly to emergencies or situations requiring immediate troubleshooting and corrective actions
  • Ensure site access, site HSE, security, deliveries, and inspections are performed by site protocols
  • Interface with 3rd party contractors working at our facilities
  • Available to respond to non-traditional operating hours for operations, maintenance, and emergent issues
  • Operate mobile equipment including mowers, forklift, tractor, excavator, and motor vehicles
  • Represent the company in a professional manner with contractor and vendor relations, as well as during partnership opportunities within the community
  • All other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate's degree in engineering or related field from an accredited US school preferred
  • NABCEP Certification or Electrical License preferred
  • Unrestricted driver license in good standing
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience as a maintenance electrician (commercial or industrial), or 4 years of experience as a multi-craft maintenance technician performing electrical work on operating equipment
  • Preference will be given to the candidate with experience in solar O&M
  • Must be skilled in at least one of the following: power plant operations, electrical and mechanical equipment maintenance; substation maintenance
  • Must be competent in power plant safety protocols
  • Must be competent in electrical safety
  • Must be competent in understanding the NEC
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Ability to walk, climb, and stand extensively during the work day
  • Knowledge of and experience with the use of hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of environmental and safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines, and evolving schedules
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites as assigned
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to push/pull/lift tools and equipment weighing up to and over 50 lbs.
  • Routine operation of a computer/tablet and other office productivity machineries
  • Frequent oral and written communications
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Complete all required training in a satisfactory manner and timeframe
  • First aid/CPR/AED
  • OSHA Certified
  • Shift work
  • Must be trainable
  • Must be adaptive to new technologies and methods
  • Must take ownership of responsibilities and look beyond the work task, with regards to discovering new opportunities for corrective work
  • Must communicate verbally and orally at an extremely high level
