Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team as an Infection Prevention and Control Specialist. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and track facility compliance with VHA Directives, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Educate leadership and staff in pathogens and infection prevention and control processes.
  • Guide interventions to prevent transmission of infectious diseases.
  • Collaborate with VHA national, VISN, and other VA Medical Centers.
  • Report to and collaborate with the regional health district and state health department as required by law and as beneficial to Mann-Grandstaff VAMC.
  • Develop and execute an annual plan including surveillance, prevention of transmission, and demonstration of skills in change management, epidemiology, data analysis, microbiology, and patient care practice.
  • Plan and execute for ongoing self-education in surveillance, prevention, and epidemiology.
  • Develop and maintain documents related to infection prevention and control such as policies, procedures, and committee documents that reflect the industry standard and best practices.
  • Collaborate with departments and services across Mann-Grandstaff VAMC, including collaboration with staff from frontline care givers to executive leadership.
  • Demonstrate problem identification and resolution abilities.
  • Evaluate products for use in clinical care which impact infection prevention and control.
  • Evaluate construction and remodeling determining and implementing infection prevention and control as appropriate.
  • Consult with facility leaders in outbreaks demonstrating strong leadership for infection prevention and control.
  • Lead and collaborate in infection prevention and control quality improvement planning.
  • Enter data into systems used for infection prevention and control and report on trends and needs in infection prevention and control at Mann-Grandstaff VAMC.
  • Lead the Infection Prevention and Control Committee.
Requirements
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • English Language Proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in nursing or a related field.
  • 3 years direct patient care experience.
  • Infection control or public health experience.
  • Program management and policy development experience.
  • Strong detail orientation.
Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. Telework: Ad-Hoc telework may be available as determined by agency policy and service needs.
