The Compensation and Financial Analyst plays a crucial role in supporting our mission, vision, and values, contributing to the strategic objectives of both the organization and the finance team. Reporting directly to the Controller, this position is primarily tasked with assisting in the preparation of biweekly payroll, acting as a backup to the Payroll Manager, preparing journal entries, and executing balance sheet reconciliations, schedules, reports, and analyses. This role also involves supporting annual audits and various special projects as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist the Payroll Manager in the preparation and review of bi-weekly payroll, ensuring accurate input, approval, and timely submission of payroll, including processing employee timesheets, calculating wages, and managing deductions and benefits.
  • Act as the backup for the Payroll Manager, taking full responsibility for payroll processing in their absence.
  • Address payroll-related inquiries from employees and resolve discrepancies efficiently.
  • Prepare and distribute payroll reports and statements as necessary.
  • Complete assigned tasks on the month-end close checklist accurately and within set timelines.
  • Prepare month-end journal entries and analyses, ensuring precise recording and classification of financial transactions.
  • Timely and accurately reconcile balance sheet accounts, documenting and clearing all reconciling items promptly.
  • Prepare audit schedules and assist in the preparation of various analyses and reports.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by responding promptly to inquiries and conducting thorough analyses as needed.
  • Establish and document systems for recordkeeping and accounting, ensuring compliance with established standards.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and organizational policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Stay updated with accounting and finance standards, best practices, and government regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications

Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge/Experience Required:
  • 3-4 years of payroll and general accounting experience.
  • 2-3 years of experience reconciling balance sheet accounts and preparing audit schedules.
  • Familiarity with payroll software such as Paylocity.
  • Experience with automated accounting systems; MIP experience is preferred.
  • Proficient in advanced features of Microsoft Excel.
Skills/Abilities:
  • Advanced computer skills, including expert-level proficiency in Excel and intermediate proficiency in Teams, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and best practices in accounting policies and procedures.
  • Excellent mathematical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Proven ability to engage effectively with all levels of the organization and external clients.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret financial data and prepare reports and reconciliations.
  • Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and develop action plans.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and focused on accuracy.
  • Demonstrate expertise in the functional area, leveraging knowledge and skills to achieve results.
