This role is pivotal in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), where the specialist will provide expert recommendations on pharmacotherapy, evaluate drug interactions, determine appropriate dosages, and implement comprehensive, cost-effective treatment protocols. The aim is to enhance patient outcomes while minimizing the risk of adverse effects, in alignment with hospital policies and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Engage actively in interdisciplinary medical rounds, contributing to patient care decisions with evidence-based medication therapy.
  2. Provide education and training to pharmacy students, residents, and medical staff on pharmacotherapy relevant to cardiac conditions.
  3. Monitor medication ordering, dispensing, and administration processes within the CICU to ensure compliance with established protocols.
  4. Collaborate with a team of healthcare professionals to optimize medication therapy outcomes for patients.
  5. Document clinical interventions and maintain records to meet accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy or Doctorate of Pharmacy from an accredited institution.
  2. Active Florida Pharmacist License and BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  3. A minimum of two years of clinical pharmacy experience in a hospital setting.

Essential Skills:

  1. In-depth knowledge of cardiac pharmacotherapy and the ability to assess patient responses to medication regimens.
  2. Strong communication skills for effective interaction with healthcare teams and patient education.
  3. Proficiency in hospital pharmacy information systems and medication management technologies.
  4. Ability to work collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient care.

Job Specific Duties:

  1. Achieve cost-saving objectives and support departmental budget management.
  2. Contribute to clinical research and educational initiatives within the pharmacy department.
  3. Review and recommend therapeutic alternatives to ensure safe and effective medication use.
  4. Provide formal discharge counseling to patients and families regarding medication management.
