Dental Assistant

Under the direct supervision of a dentist, the dental assistant provides chairside support and assists dentists in delivering high-quality dental and oral health care services to patients in clinics.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide optimal chairside support to dentists during patient care activities.
- Prepare patients for dental and oral health care services.
- Prepare the dental operatory with the necessary instruments and supplies.
- Transfer equipment and supplies to the dentist or dental hygienist.
- Respond to patient inquiries and maintain patient electronic records.
- Operate dental machines as needed for the operation of the clinic.
- Sterilize and disinfect instruments, set up instrument trays, and produce dental x-rays as needed.
- Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly dental operatory at all times.
- Provide patient follow-up appointments and adhere to proper opening and closing procedures.
- Wear a neat and clean uniform and provide clerical support when staff shortages exist.
- Maintain department logbooks and prepare and pack instruments for transportation.
- Monitor patient flow and comply with HIPAA Privacy Act and infection control practices.
- Adhere to all local, state, and national dental practice policies and procedures.
- Dispose of dental waste in accordance with applicable statues and laws.
- Maintain regular time and attendance and participate in professional development opportunities.
- Support and adhere to current local, national, and corporate patient safety and harm reduction goals.
- Instruct patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs.
- Schedule appointments, generate and close encounters, prepare bills, and receive payment for dental services.
- Order supplies and maintain updated inventory.
- Alert the purchasing department to malfunctioning equipment.
- Call the laboratory to pick up denture cases.
- Log in denture cases delivered to the clinic by the lab.
- Answer the telephone in the dental suite and take messages while the dentist is unavailable.
- A four-year high school diploma or its equivalent, including or supplemented by a course of study consisting of at least 600 instructional hours at an approved school for dental assistants.
- Experience as a receptionist or clerk in a dentist's office is not acceptable towards meeting the qualification requirements.
- Knowledge of chairside dental assisting and associated dental and oral health patient care.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office software and Practice Management and Electronic Medical Record software.
