Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to serve as the Assistant Medical Center Director at the Hampton VA Medical Center. As a key member of the leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the medical center, ensuring that all administrative and clinical services are running smoothly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Exercise line authority for multiple administrative and allied health services and sections
  • Directly responsible for facility operations, including planning, coordinating, supervising, and directing various administrative and health-related services
  • Participate in top-level executive discussions, decisions, policy making, and actions of all administrative functions and indirectly of all clinical matters impacting patient care
  • Resolve complex and unusual healthcare administration issues by independent analysis and action, with the potential to set precedent and lead organizational change
  • Develop plans, programs, direction, and monitoring of clinic and health plan management
  • Apply specialized principles and practices of healthcare management to coordinate, direct, and control programs and resources for both clinics and health plan administration
  • Perform financial management and resource decision-making analysis, ensuring operational spending and resources stay in balance
  • Exercise full authority for establishing priorities for healthcare operations and allocating available resources accordingly
  • Serve as fiscal advisor to the Medical Center Director in preparing formal budget submissions for approval
  • Exercise a full range of managerial and supervisory authorities and responsibilities related to human capital management
  • Provide timely and responsive decisions to the union(s) and their members on complaints and grievances and ensure that supervisors are familiar with the negotiated agreement
  • Represent the healthcare system by establishing and maintaining community partnerships and relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Serve as a facilitator between clinical providers and administrators to meet the medical center's goals and objectives
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining good working relations with other medical centers in the local area and throughout the region, medical schools, accrediting agencies, volunteer worker groups, and the community at large
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959
  • May be required to serve a probationary period
  • Subject to background/security investigation
  • Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP)
Qualifications
  • Progressively responsible analytical or administrative, or clinical management or supervisory experience in the healthcare field
  • Knowledge of the missions, organizations, programs, and requirements of healthcare delivery systems
  • Regulations and standards of various regulatory and credentialing groups
  • Government-wide, agency, and facility systems and requirements in various administrative areas such as budget, personnel, and procurement
  • Management ability to delegate authority, evaluate and oversee people and programs, recognize and adapt to changing priorities
  • Knowledge of the interrelationships and interdependencies among various medical and administrative services and programs
