UnitedHealth Group is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Peer Support Specialist to join our team in Lexington, KY. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting consumers and families in achieving their recovery goals and improving their overall well-being.
Key Responsibilities- Use your own recovery experience and training to assist families and consumers in defining their recovery goals and developing the skills and knowledge needed for their recovery.
- Work with consumers who have co-occurring disorders, such as mental health and substance use disorders.
- Support the creation and implementation of a comprehensive training and education program with peers, families, providers, and staff.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with existing consumer and family organizations to engage members in Optum/Health Plan activities.
- Communicate plan information to consumers and consumer-operated organizations, as well as families and family organizations.
- Identify and outreach to community leaders and ethnic minority groups to develop programs that are culturally competent and use recovery and resiliency principles.
- Participate in Optum and Health Plan quality review processes.
- Enable effective communication with consumers and their families about mental healthcare delivery systems and their rights and responsibilities.
- Provide support to consumers and family members in making needed appointments.
- Work with clinical teams to implement intensive care coordination, including peer support and community-based services.
- Active and current Peer Recovery Specialist or Peer Support Specialist certification in the state of Kentucky or ability to obtain certification within 12 months of employment.
- 4+ years of case management experience.
- 1+ years of experience with community resources.
- 1+ years of experience with demonstrated understanding of recovery and resiliency principles and lived experience.
- 1+ years of experience working with the Medicaid population.
- Proven intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and ability to access multiple web applications.
- Reside within a commutable distance to Lexington and surrounding communities in Kentucky.
- Current and non-restricted state of Kentucky driver's license and state-required insurance and access to reliable transportation with the ability to travel 75% of the time within 60 miles of territory assigned.
- Proven access to a designated quiet workspace in your home (separated from non-workspace areas) with the ability to secure Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Proven bilingual in English/Spanish.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate training events.
