Program OverviewThe Structured Teaching and Learning Room (STLR) program offers a structured, small-group learning environment that emphasizes:
- Intensive support in communication, social skills, and positive behavior.
- Academic instruction using an alternate or modified curriculum tailored to students' needs.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with autism or other developmental delays.
- Providing direct, individualized instruction in communication, social skills, and academic subjects using an alternate or modified curriculum.
- Creating and maintaining a structured, supportive classroom environment that promotes positive behavior and effective learning.
- Monitoring and assessing student progress, adjusting instructional strategies and IEP goals as needed.
- Collaborating with other educators, support staff, and parents to ensure comprehensive support for students.
- Participating in IEP meetings and contributing to the development and review of students' educational plans.
- Providing training and support to staff on strategies to assist students with autism and developmental delays.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Valid Illinois teaching certification in Special Education.
- Experience working with students with autism and developmental delays is highly desirable.
- Strong skills in lesson planning, classroom management, and individualized instruction.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
