Mammography Technologist

In collaboration with the Women's Health and Medical Services, the Mammography Technologist ensures the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of the mammography area by planning and coordinating patient flow, work distribution, inventory control, and quality control.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities- Perform high-quality radiologic, fluoroscopy, and mammography exams on incoming patients.
- Monitor patients' well-being during exams; recognize patient discomfort or medical problems and take appropriate action.
- Respond to physician questions and needs regarding patients.
- Occasionally travel to nearby centers to receive training and/or help with coverage.
- Participate in projects and/or meetings, as well as complete other tasks as assigned by management.
- Perform a variety of tasks involving the operation of mammographic equipment and other equipment/devices as appropriate.
- Select proper mode to produce correct exposure factors.
- Evaluate images for diagnostic quality, obtaining additional images as needed.
- Prepare and set up medical supplies using aseptic techniques if appropriate. Explain procedures to patients.
- Print film or burn CDs if warranted. Match with the appropriate paperwork for interpretation.
- Provide orientation to new Mammographers.
- Protect patients, public, and staff.
- For supervisory assignments: a valid license and current registration to practice as a Radiologic Technologist issued by NYSDOH; and two (2) years of experience as a Radiographer performing duties consistent with Assignment Levels, I and II, one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
- For specialized imaging assignments: a valid license and current registration to practice as a Radiologic Technologist issued by NYSDOH; and possession of a current advanced-level certification in the appropriate specialty area for the performance of these procedures.
