Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Behavioral Health Assistant to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a Behavioral Health Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the learning of practical, functional, and meaningful skills, while decreasing challenging behavior.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist behavioral health specialists and behavior analysts in the development of Skills Acquisition Plans (SAPs) and/or Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSPs)
  • Take, enter, monitor, and report various forms of data and complete various behavioral, psychiatric, preference, strengths, functional, adaptive skills or other assessments deemed necessary by the Behavior Health Specialist or Behavior Analyst
  • Train direct care staff, assist in the creation or implementation of PBSPs and/or SAPs, provide special treatment and/or training sessions, substitute for other behavioral health staff at assigned meetings, and other duties deemed necessary by the supervisor in the provision of behavioral health and skill acquisition programming
  • Attend work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime, in accordance with agency leave policy and perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Knowledge of behavioral analysis theories and practice and regulatory guidelines as related to the field of intellectual disabilities
  • Knowledge of behavioral principles and behavioral research methodology
  • Knowledge of Positive behavioral supports
  • Knowledge of Skill Acquisition Plans and the active treatment loop
  • Ability to implement educational and behavioral treatment and therapy
  • Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams and collaborate in other committees
  • Ability to train staff at all levels
  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide accurate and complete oral and written reports
  • Ability to use computers and relevant software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and electronic health data systems like CareTracker and IRIS
