Job Title: Executive Director

Join a dynamic team at Texas Rio Grande Public Defender as we seek an exceptional leader to serve as our Executive Director. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of our organization and make a meaningful impact on the lives of our clients.

Job Summary

The Executive Director will be responsible for leading our team of approximately 65 attorneys and staff, providing strategic direction, and overseeing all aspects of the organization. This is a full-time position with a limited caseload, and the successful candidate will be expected to innovate and build on our record as a leader in public defense.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and empower a team of attorneys and staff to provide high-quality, client-centered defense representation.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to advance the organization's mission and goals.
  • Oversee the organization's finances, including budgeting and financial planning.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including county and state officials, community partners, and donors.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise and manage daily operations, including personnel management and training.
Requirements
  • Juris Doctor degree.
  • Texas bar license or ability to obtain within six months.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Leadership experience in a public defender office or similar organization.
  • Experience in litigation, supervision, management, and budgeting.
  • Ability to motivate and develop staff.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Compensation

The salary range for this position is $150,000 to $160,000, commensurate with experience. TRGPD offers a competitive benefits package, including law school loan repayment, paid leave, healthcare insurance, retirement plan, and training stipends.
