Job Title: Behavior Intervention Specialist

Job Summary:

The Behavior Intervention Specialist will utilize evidence-based positive behavioral supports to create healthy and safe environments for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This role will empower staff to enhance people's dignity, assist with decision-making skills, teach prosocial replacement skills, and model/reinforce coping skills to reduce interfering behaviors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments to identify underlying causes of challenging behaviors.
  • Develop and implement Behavior Support Plans in conjunction with the Program Planning Team.
  • Assess and maintain behavioral data to inform treatment decisions.
  • Collaborate with direct care staff to review behavioral health supports, provide training, and implement data collection.
  • Act as a mentor to supporting staff, providing ongoing observations, modeling, and training in behavioral health supports.
  • Participate in screening/intake meetings for program and residential vacancies.
  • Present Restrictive Behavior Support Plans with required consents to the Human Rights Committee for approval.
  • Provide clinical support to other programs and sites as needed.

Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in a clinical or treatment field in Psychology, Social Work, School Psychology, or Applied Psychology.
  • National Board certification in behavior analysis (BCBA) and a Master's degree in behavior analysis or a field closely related to clinical or community psychology.
  • NYS license in Mental Health Counseling.
