Key Responsibilities:

  • Stay updated on state-of-the-art engineering practices and provide guidance on engineering processes and standards to colleagues as needed.
  • Ensure protection systems comply with system requirements, applicable codes, and regulatory standards; document compliance with relevant protection criteria.
  • Conduct complex system fault analysis to determine relay requirements and settings, providing specifications for new installations and retrofits.
  • Collaborate with engineers to implement efficient distribution automation schemes in support of Smart Grid initiatives; provide engineering expertise for generation plant protection design.
  • Develop and mentor other protection engineers, focusing on technical fundamentals and organizational protection criteria.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent.
  • Senior Protection Engineer: Minimum of five years in engineering or four years in a related field with a PE license.
  • Principal Protection Engineer: At least eight years in a related field; PE license preferred.
  • Protection Engineer: Minimum of two years in engineering.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with substation relay protection.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of specialized protection software.
  • Ability to build effective professional relationships across departments.
  • Capable of handling real-time problem-solving pressures.

Work Environment:

PGE supports hybrid flexible work arrangements, combining in-office and remote work. However, these arrangements may change based on business needs.

Compensation:

Compensation ranges from $78,000 to $183,000, with actual total compensation, including performance-based incentives, determined by experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity.
