Nurse Substitute

Job Summary:

The Substitute Nurse is a vital member of the USD 470 team, responsible for addressing the health needs of students in the absence of the School Nurse. This role requires a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Evaluating and caring for injuries, providing basic first aid until parents decide on further action, and documenting all actions taken in the health room.
• Maintaining school health records, documenting screening results, referral status, immunization records, and health assessments to ensure compliance with state and district guidelines.
• Notifying parents of the need for medical referrals and following up on them to ensure students receive proper care.
• Ensuring documentation of medication and maintaining, dispensing, and securing all student medication according to policy for medication administration.
• Identifying, assessing, planning, intervening, and evaluating student health concerns to provide proper care.
• Ensuring the health room has first aid and health supplies and informing the district monthly of any needed supplies.

Requirements:

• Current Kansas Board of Nursing License (Registered Nurse or LPN).
• Must have current certification in First Aid and CPR.
• Must have knowledge and ability to use office machines and health equipment as required.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

• Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment.
• May be required to wear protective garments and/or gloves for exposure control under limited circumstances. Ability to move, lift, pull, or push heavy objects.
