Job Summary
The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments is seeking a skilled Communications Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our communications department, you will be responsible for media relations and member and stakeholder communications. This includes the production of a wide variety of print and web content.

In this role, you will work collaboratively with our subject matter experts and area officials on topics such as transportation, water and air quality, climate change, housing, land use, health, and public safety. You will also provide media relations support before, during, and after meetings and events, and set up interviews for officials and staff experts.

Additionally, you will produce newsletters using email marketing software, write news features for our website, and help create multimedia products. You will review media and other information sources for news pertinent to COG and identify articles to include in our daily newsletter to members and staff. You will also update and draft content for social media accounts and maintain a database of media and other contacts.

We are looking for a highly skilled communicator with strong writing and editing skills, and experience in producing publications, journalism, public relations, local, state or federal government, or nonprofit organizations. A bachelor's or master's degree in communication, journalism, media, public relations, history, government, political science, or a related field is required, as well as two to three years of experience in a related field.

The salary range for this position is $62,652-$70,326 per year, depending on qualifications.
