Job Summary:

Soliant is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to improving the educational outcomes of students with special needs and possess the required qualifications to teach in Virginia public schools.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with special needs.
  • Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students in a positive environment.
  • Employ special educational strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory- and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory.
  • Instruct students in academic subjects using a variety of techniques such as phonetics, multi-sensory learning, and repetition to reinforce learning and meet students' varying needs and interests.
  • Teach socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification and positive reinforcement.
  • Modify the general education curriculum for students with disabilities based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies.
  • Plan and conduct activities that are aligned with the students' IEP goals.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, school staff, and parents to ensure the success of students with special needs.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
  • Participate in professional development activities to stay current with new teaching practices and methodologies.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Special Education.
  • Experience working with children with special needs is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the IEP process and special education laws.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
Licensure and Certifications:
  • Valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Special Education (K-12).
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR is preferred.
  • Additional certifications related to special education (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorders, Learning Disabilities) are a plus.
