Position Overview
The University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science is seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join our Climate Accountability Lab. As a key member of our team, you will work on a project focused on computationally tracking climate change discourse on social media and other digital platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze past and present climate narratives across major social media platforms
- Develop and implement data collection and analysis methods using social network analysis, statistical analysis, and open-ended data mining
- Apply machine learning techniques, including Natural Language Processing and image recognition, to identify and counter climate disinformation and propaganda
- Collaborate with computer scientists at the Algorithmic Transparency Institute and other academic and non-profit organizations on data collection, analysis, and public outreach and engagement
Requirements
- PhD or equivalent in fields including but not limited to computational social science, applied data science, and computer science
- Strong capabilities in relevant research methods, including social network analysis, statistical analysis, and open-ended data mining
- Experience with applied machine learning, including Natural Language Processing and image recognition
- Effective teamwork and communication skills
