Join the City of New York's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) as an Industrial Hygienist and play a crucial role in ensuring the health and safety of employees and the environment.

Job Summary:

The Industrial Hygienist will be responsible for providing support and guidance on environmental, health, and safety (EHS) issues to ensure compliance with Agency policies, guidelines, and regulations. This includes performing EHS inspections, documenting and reporting deficiencies, and assisting auditors during programmatic audits.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure assigned facilities maintain EHS compliance with Agency policies, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Perform EHS inspections and document findings.
  • Report deficiencies to EHS Section Chief, Facility Manager, and Plant Chief.
  • Assist auditors during programmatic audits.
  • Provide training and guidance on EHS issues to facility workers.
  • Identify and report hazards that require assessments.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee records.
  • Prepare and submit accurate and legible work products.
Requirements:

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 28 semester credits in industrial hygiene, environmental health science, occupational health science, and/or safety engineering. Alternatively, a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with 28 semester credits in the physical or natural sciences, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, chemical engineering, and/or toxicology, and one year of satisfactory full-time experience in the identification, evaluation, and control of health and safety hazards.
