Job Overview:
The Student Health Care Center (SHCC) at UF Health Shands seeks a full-time Registered Nurse I to enhance our healthcare team.
In this capacity, you will provide patient care adhering to RN License standards across diverse primary care teams and specialty clinics, including Women's Health, Sports Medicine, Acute Care, Immunization Clinic, and Psychiatry.
Your duties will encompass executing treatments and procedures, triaging patients, conducting nurse visits, administering medications, and screening and counseling patients. You will also be responsible for collecting and documenting vital signs, visual acuity, and point-of-care testing as directed by healthcare providers.
Additionally, you will offer independent care to patients following established protocols and standing orders.Collaboration with providers to coordinate clinical activities and liaising with SHCC providers and Counseling and Wellness Center counselors will also be part of your role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver RN coverage for various Primary Care and Specialty teams within Student Health.
- Facilitate prescription refills in partnership with assigned clinic providers.
- Assist with medication Pre-Authorizations and manage patient inquiries regarding medication concerns.
- Support patients with laboratory referrals and results.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of clinical nursing practices, including emergency procedures and equipment.
- Conduct nurse visits and ensure patient safety and effective care delivery.
- Utilize SHCC Nursing guidelines, Standing Orders, policies, and procedures in your practice.
- Monitor patient responses to treatments and administer medications as instructed by providers.
Clinical Duties and Patient Management:
- Assess patients' vital signs and provide education on health maintenance and preventive care.
- Initiate IVs, perform wound care, and administer medications.
- Screen and counsel patients, collecting visual acuity when necessary.
- Conduct Point-of-Care testing.
- Ensure efficient patient flow to providers in a timely and customer-friendly manner.
- Address the needs of specialized patient populations, including those with transgender issues, eating disorders, obesity, anxiety, and depression.
- Triage a high volume of patients both by telephone and in person.
- Review intake records and medical histories to assess acuity and service needs.
- Collaborate with clinical providers regarding high-risk patients to ensure continuity of care.
- Communicate effectively with patients to ensure compliance with care and follow-up.
Education, Counseling, and Referrals:
- Assist with referrals from various primary care and specialty clinics.
- Maintain contact with patients to confirm receipt of services.
- Contribute to departmental and institutional goals for non-discrimination and a multicultural environment.
- Educate and counsel patients on their medical conditions and promote health and wellness.
- Document all interventions in the patient's health record.
Coordination of Services and Additional Duties:
- Coordinate services within your team, consulting with SHCC providers and counseling staff.
- Attend team meetings and participate in quality improvement and continuing education programs.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 40 hours/week. Flexibility in hours and days may be required based on operational needs.

The initial salary ranges from $28.00 to $31.00 hourly, based on experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate of a nationally accredited nursing program and licensed as a registered nurse.
- High School diploma.
- Current CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) degree.
- Two years of relevant nursing experience.
- Proficient in electronic health records and Microsoft programs.
- Skilled in patient triage, assessment, and performing CPR.
