Respiratory Therapist

The Respiratory Therapist at Baptist Health Care evaluates, treats, and cares for patients with breathing or other cardiopulmonary disorders. This position practices under the direction of a physician, providing bedside respiratory care to patients as assigned by supervisors and given on the physician's written order for both in-house and out-patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer medically prescribed medications safely and effectively, knowing their indications and contraindications.
- Know and follow the indications and contraindications, policy, and procedures in administering therapeutic modalities, including Small Volume Nebulizer (SVN), Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI), Invasive and non-invasive Ventilator Management, Oxygen Therapy, Lung volume expansion protocols, ventilator weaning protocols.
- Perform arterial punctures using radial, brachial, and femoral sites independently, drawing off arterial lines to obtain samples for blood gas analysis.
- Perform all aspects of artificial airway care.
- Set up and maintain infant oxygen devices and mechanical ventilators.
- Familiar with oxygen delivery systems, including nasal, Heated High Flow Nasal Cannulas, Venturi mask, Heated tracheostomy masks.
- Responsible for setting up, safety checking, monitoring, and troubleshooting mechanical ventilators.
- Maintain accurate and legible records, documenting clinical notes in patient charts.
- Participate in reporting patient progress and prioritizing patient condition to the next shift.
- Be a member of the code team, responding to arrest situations and CAT calls.
- Maintain current knowledge, certification, and licensure.
Education
- Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy or Certificate of Completion in Respiratory Therapy.
- Clinical rotations from an accredited respiratory practitioner program.
- Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) licensed in the State of Florida.
- BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program within 6 months.
- Evaluate respiratory therapy treatment plans, developing treatment options.
- Evaluate respiratory therapy treatment plan effectiveness by observing, recording, and evaluating patient progress, recommending necessary adjustments to treatment plans.
- Contribute to respiratory therapy services and organization success by welcoming related, different, and new requests, helping others accomplish job results.
- Perform all responsibilities and duties required by the respiratory therapy department, addressing the unique nature of the client, including age.
- Educate patients and their families about their conditions, teaching appropriate disease management techniques, such as breathing exercises or the use of medications or respiratory equipment.
- Demonstrate current theoretical and clinical expertise with respect to community respiratory therapy practices and education.
