In the Tony & Libba Rane Culinary Science Center, our micro coffee roastery provides a unique learning environment for students. They will be immersed in the process of making artisanal coffee beverages from bean to cup, including roasting, grinding, tamping, pouring, and serving.

Responsibilities:

• Engage with customers about the concept and partnership with Auburn University, providing a thoughtful and informative experience.
• Prepare for daily service by performing mise en place based on business levels.
• Oversee the guest experience, ensuring it meets Thrive Here@Auburn powered by Thrive Farmers and IHP's standards of service.
• Monitor and observe the café experience, responding promptly and courteously to any requests.
• Maintain a neat and clean work environment.
• Perform lateral service as needed to ensure the smooth operation of the cafe.
• Prepare foods, such as sandwiches or baked goods, and grind and blend coffee beans, brew coffee and tea.
• Sell coffee and tea blends and brewing equipment, educating customers about brewing methods.
• Learn about brewing methods, beverage blends, food preparation, and presentation techniques to improve food quality.
• Take inventory and replenish items based on business levels.

Working Conditions:

• Work in a standing position for long periods of time.
• Safely lift and maneuver multiple plates of food and carry bus tubs frequently weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Have a flexible work schedule and ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements:

• Experience in a coffee shop or coffee roaster as a barista preferred.
• Possess basic math skills and handle money and operate a point-of-sale system.
• Have a positive attitude and willingness to continue learning about food and beverage preparation in a coffee environment.
