Assistant Dean of Students

Key Responsibilities- Lead case management for students of concern, working closely with staff and faculty to support and retain students.
- Collaborate with academic deans in response to student behavioral concerns in the classroom.
- Respond to student complaints and concerns, advocate for students, and facilitate conflict resolution and mediation with appropriate individuals.
- Serve as a resource and navigational guide for students in need of basic resources and administer the emergency grant program.
- Chair student conduct boards, serve on the behavioral intervention team, chair a cross-departmental CARE team, and rotate emergency on-call responsibilities with other staff in the Dean of Students Office.
- Participate in university committees as assigned.
- Chair the CARE team and case manage at-risk undergraduate and graduate student population, requiring weekly meetings with team members.
- Follow up and support students whose behavior indicates difficulty in the classroom, social environment, or residence hall, and coordinate family support meetings when necessary.
- Initiate action or follow up on calls/alerts from students, faculty, or staff requiring advocacy or emergency response, serving as a campus resource for students navigating systems for basic need resources and administering the emergency grant program.
- Serve with on-call duty responsibilities, providing weekend emergency response to students, which may include contact with upper administrators, Public Safety, faculty members, or staff.
- Initiate or respond to calls from family members of students requiring supportive response and/or advocacy, monitor and approve content for the St. Thomas Family Portal, and assist with creation and implementation of parent summer orientation program.
- Assist with disciplinary processes for undergraduate and graduate students, including serving on conduct boards or assisting with investigations.
- Perform other administrative duties as assigned.
- Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in education or a related field, five years of experience in student life/student affairs in higher education, including experience dealing with student support and well-being, university student conduct systems, restorative justice practices, conflict resolution, and mediation.
- Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree in Higher Education Student Personnel Development, Student Affairs, Social Work, Counseling, Pastoral Studies, or an equivalency in human services, at least three years of experience with case management, student support, and emergency crisis response, and bilingual language skills.
