Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Security Specialist to join our team at the Department of the Navy. As a key member of our security team, you will be responsible for providing direct security support to our Deputy Director of Security, Security Officer, and Commanding Officer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement security policies and procedures to ensure the protection of classified programs and projects.
  • Provide technical and administrative support to the security team, including vulnerability assessments and security program management.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and managers to manage special projects and activities within the Security Department.
  • Represent the Security Department at inter-agency meetings, conferences, and workshops.
  • Advise on technical security problems and challenges, and make recommendations for solutions.
  • Manage team activities, progress, and scheduling to ensure successful project performance.
  • Review actual vulnerability assessments and security program performance.
  • Formulate short and long-range budgetary requirements based on current and projected mission, personnel, and individual/physical security equipment requirements.
Requirements
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
  • Must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to qualify for inclusion into the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a current Security Fundamentals Professional (SFPC) and Special Program Security (SPSC) certification.
Qualifications

Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NH-03 (GS-13) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Developing, managing, and executing lifecycle security programs for aerospace, nuclear weapons security, or Navy Ballistic Missiles programs to correct deficiencies and mitigate risks, ensuring mission requirements are met.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
