Houston, Texas, United States MD Anderson Cancer Center Full time

A research associate position is open in the laboratory of Dr. Kristen Pauken at MD Anderson Cancer Center within the Department of Immunology. The primary objective of the Pauken lab is to investigate the effects of PD-1-targeted immunotherapy on the fate and functionality of CD8+ T cells in relation to anti-cancer responses and immune-related adverse effects.

This role entails working with live animal models to explore immunological mechanisms associated with immune responses. Ideal candidates will engage in the analysis of biological datasets to pinpoint critical signals that influence CD8+ T cell development and differentiation under varying conditions, such as tolerance and exhaustion, aimed at enhancing cancer treatment outcomes.

Learning Goals:

  • Examine the cellular and molecular factors driving CD8+ T cell differentiation in both anti-cancer and self-reactive immune responses.
  • Explore how the anatomical context affects CD8+ T cell differentiation across different immune responses.
  • Evaluate current immunotherapy approaches to improve efficacy while maintaining safety standards.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in life or physical sciences, including but not limited to immunology, biology, cancer biology, or bioinformatics.

Position Details:
Compensation ranges from $56,484 to $68,604, determined by postgraduate experience in accordance with NIH stipend guidelines. Benefits encompass medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, retirement plans, wellness initiatives, and additional perks.
