Job Summary:

The Surgical Technologist II is a vital member of the operating room team, responsible for setting up sterile fields, gathering supplies, and passing instruments to surgeons during surgery. This role also performs count procedures and serves as a resource and preceptor to less experienced Surgical Technologists. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of instruments and equipment, as well as excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities:

* Set up sterile fields and gather supplies for surgical cases
* Pass instruments to surgeons during surgery
* Perform count procedures per policy during surgical cases
* Serve as a resource and preceptor to less experienced Surgical Technologists
* Take call for routine and high acuity cases after orientation period

Requirements:

* Registered by the State Board of Medicine and Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C) or Certified Operating Room or Surgical Technician (CORST)
* Minimum of 6 months experience as a Surgical Technologist or related scrub tech position
* 2 years experience as a surgical technologist or related scrub technician position preferred
* High School Diploma or equivalent
* Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program or a military training program or Licensed Practical Nursing Program

Working Conditions:

* Functions under the direction of RN or independent practitioner in providing direct patient care, emotional support and problem solving, all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policies and procedures
* Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor for time/schedule changes, legal issues, direct care which deviates from the standard and identification of educational resources to meet developmental needs
* Job duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies

Physical Requirements:

* Lifting 50-100 lbs
* Prolonged standing, Prolonged sitting, Frequent bending, Walking (distance), Climbing (steps, ladder, other), Reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive)

Mental/Sensory Requirements:

* Strong recall, Reasoning, Problem solving, Hearing, Speak clearly, Write legibly, Reading, Logical thinking
