Job SummaryThe Accounting Supervisor will oversee the full cycle of the accounting department, collaborating with accounting teams to develop efficient, scalable processes and system solutions tailored for optimal controllership.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in finance system design, implementations, enhancements, and continuous improvements by reviewing flow of transactions through source systems; validating ongoing configuration decisions; reviewing systems in area of expertise to ensure that new systems, upgrades, and other system maintenance activities do not impact operations, financial statements, or leadership decision making.
- Plan, manage, and oversee the operational activities for various accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, state reporting and compliance, chart of accounts, financial aid, year-end closing processes, banking, Cost accounting and financial statements; ensure the maintenance of financial, accounting, and statistical files and records.
- Develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for providing accounting services and activities.
- Analyze complex financial and statistical data and prepare accounting statements, reports, forecasts, summary conclusions, and recommendations in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Supports financial transactions by preparing complex accounting activities and reconciliations leading to a complete set of accurate financial statements (e.g. journal entries, estimates, disbursements) in accordance with GAAP and company policies; reviewing and approving complex accounting activities prepared by others; and making recommendations.
- Supports financial analyses by reviewing operational statistics to explain financial results, inform decision-making and take action to pursue efficiencies and quality financial outcomes; ensuring ad hoc request for analysis are completed; establishing data gathering methods; and providing expertise in data origination.
- Manage month end close in an accurate and timely manner, ensuring adherence to the prescribed financial reporting deadlines.
- Reconcile processed work (Revenue and COGS items) by verifying entries and comparing system reports to balances.
- Maintain accounting controls by establishing and implementing standardized policies and procedures, in collaboration with the Finance VP and CFO.
- Provides guidance to other departments by researching and interpreting accounting policy; applying observations and recommendations to operational challenges.
- Performs complex analyses for organizational stakeholders as well as ad hoc, management reporting.
- Participate in long-term planning/forecasting processes, including annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Integrated)
- Facilitate and conduct analysis sessions, including root cause analysis, requirements gathering, process mapping, and control documentation.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related degree is required.
- 5-8 years of accounting experience.
- Proven Job Cost experience.
- Knowledge of Quick Books/Net Suite, and California tax/labor regulations.
- Proficient/advanced skills in MS Office Suite applications (Excel, Power Point, Word) and data management.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
