OVERVIEW:

The Clinical Pharmacist plays a crucial role in patient care by compounding and dispensing prescribed medications in accordance with established professional standards and regulatory requirements. This position requires a thorough review of prescriptions to ensure accuracy and the appropriate selection of formulas and ingredients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review and verify prescriptions from authorized prescribers to ensure correctness and compliance with legal standards.
  • Oversee pharmacy staff in the preparation, packaging, and labeling of pharmaceuticals.
  • Provide expert guidance to customers regarding medication interactions, potential side effects, proper dosages, and storage guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in Pharmacy is mandatory.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in a hospital pharmacy setting is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid pharmacy license in Texas is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are essential for effective communication with healthcare professionals and hospital staff.

CORE FUNCTIONS:

  • Educate healthcare teams and patients on the proper use of medications, as well as the compounding and dispensing processes.
  • Conduct professional and technical activities related to medication distribution, inventory management, and patient record maintenance.
  • Supervise pharmacy interns and technicians, ensuring adherence to established policies and regulations to maintain patient safety.
  • Take full responsibility for medication orders, including review, clarification, entry, accuracy, preparation, and delivery.
  • Interpret physician orders accurately, ensuring the correct selection of products and dosages.
  • Regularly verify controlled substance inventories and perform audits to prevent drug diversion.
  • Conduct routine checks for expired medications and perform inspections of nursing units.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Employees must be capable of performing essential functions, which may include sitting, conversing, and using hands for handling objects.
  • Ability to lift and carry over 20 pounds regularly and push/pull over 25 pounds is necessary.
  • Standing or walking for at least five hours daily is expected.
