Position Overview:
The Level II Competent Registered Nurse is proficient in delivering patient care.

This role involves collaborating with the healthcare team to enhance care quality in the designated clinical area by integrating research and applying evidence-based practices.

The Level II Competent Registered Nurse is accountable for providing comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered care for a designated group of patients.

The RN is responsible for patient care delivery through the nursing process, which includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Practice Standards for a Level II Registered Nurse:
In the MWHC Practice Standards, a Level II Registered Nurse is defined by the following areas:

- New Knowledge, Innovations, and Improvement Practice Standards

Key Responsibilities:

- Direct and coordinate nursing care, overseeing both licensed and unlicensed personnel in assigned tasks through the nursing process and interdisciplinary teamwork to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

- Engage patients, families, and health team members in care, including education and discharge planning.

- Communicate and coordinate care plans and pertinent information with other healthcare team members.
- Assist leadership in defining excellence standards for patient care and participate in improving care services.
- Contribute to and integrate performance improvement into care delivery and engage in quality improvement initiatives.
- Participate in the orientation of new staff members.

- Serve as a resource for hospital and departmental policies and procedures for nursing and other health team members.

- Participate in daily operational activities to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Provide input to the Nurse Manager regarding unit needs.
- Engage in unit, departmental, and hospital committees to formulate nursing and hospital policies and procedures.

- Ensure the physical, mental, and social well-being of individuals and families through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care.

- Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop, implement, and evaluate care plans as needed.

- Provide thorough education to patients and caregivers related to care plans.
- When assigned, act as case manager to coordinate multidisciplinary services according to care plans.
- Maintain productivity standards as set by agency leadership.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to share information and assist with patient management.
- Engage in staff and administrative meetings.
- Participate in quality and performance improvement activities.
- Perform other assigned duties.
- Fulfill essential functions and responsibilities at designated hospital locations as scheduled.

Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program with experience as a Registered Nurse.
- Valid RN License from Virginia or a reciprocal compact state is required.
- AHA BLS Provider CPR certification is required upon hire.
- ENPC and TNCC certifications are required within 30 days.
- Additional certifications may be required based on the assigned unit.
- A minimum of 2 years of recent RN acute care experience is required.
