Custodian Part-Time Job Summary

Under the supervision of a designated authority, the Custodian performs cleaning and disinfection tasks to maintain a healthy environment for County staff, citizens, and visitors. This role involves monitoring and reporting additional maintenance issues and ensuring buildings are secured at the end of the day.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Dust, mop, sweep, and vacuum entryways, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, workout rooms, conference rooms, and hallways daily.
  • Clean restrooms, disinfect toilets, sinks, and mirrors, and wipe down surfaces, including doors, toilet paper holders, paper towel dispensers, and ledges.
  • Clean locker room showers and sink areas, wipe down lockers and benches, and disinfect workout equipment and mirrors.
  • Shampoo carpets, buff and auto-scrub hard floors as needed.
  • Strip and refinish floors.
  • Perform bonnet cleaning of floors as needed.
  • Replace light bulbs in various types of light fixtures, which may require the use of a ladder.
  • Set tables and chairs up for meetings.
  • Lock and secure exterior and interior doors and set alarms at closing time.
  • Assist with removing snow and salting walkways.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Some previous custodial experience.
  • Knowledge of basic cleaning methods, tools, and materials.
  • Work safety policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Cleaning products and their appropriate uses.
Physical Demands and Working Environment:

This role involves working indoors and outdoors at various County facilities, including detention facilities, with inmates present. The incumbent may be exposed to extreme temperatures, potentially dangerous tools and equipment, and hazardous chemicals. The position may require climbing ladders and lifting and moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
