The Energy, Inertial Fusion Technology (IFT) division at General Atomics is on the lookout for a skilled, driven, and innovative Additive Manufacturing Specialist to become part of our dynamic and expanding team, focusing on Two-Photon Polymerization.

This position necessitates a strong background in polymer-resin based additive manufacturing, along with expertise in laser optics, laboratory chemistry, metrology, software engineering, and CAD design tools.

The ideal candidate will be instrumental in the development and refinement of production processes for microscale and nanoscale structures.



Key Responsibilities:

Design and Development:
• Conduct experiments aimed at developing and enhancing two-photon polymerization processes.
• Leverage knowledge in laser optics to fine-tune laser parameters for accurate polymerization control.
• Innovate and assess new materials for application in two-photon polymerization.
• Execute metrology and characterization of produced structures utilizing advanced imaging and analytical methodologies.
• Employ CAD design software to create and modify microscale and nanoscale designs.
• Collaborate within a team setting to address challenges and promote continuous improvement.
• Resolve technical issues related to materials, equipment, and process parameters.
• Work with cross-functional teams to facilitate the transition of processes from research and development to production.
• Produce parts with high variability and low quantity, iterating to meet specifications.
• Implement quality assurance measures to guarantee the consistency and reliability of manufactured products.
• Stay updated with advancements in two-photon polymerization technology and contribute to ongoing improvement initiatives.
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:
• B.S. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nano Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline with 1-3 years of relevant work experience.
• Familiarity with two-photon polymerization techniques and associated equipment is preferred.
• Proficient in laser optics and experienced with laser systems.
• Strong foundation in laboratory chemistry, materials characterization, and metrology.
• Experience with CAD design software such as Solidworks, AutoCAD, CADFusion, ZEMAX, and others.
• Background in software development, including programming languages such as Python, Labview, C#, and/or MATLAB.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
• Capability to engage with determined professionals who prioritize facts and strive for excellence.
• Experience with cleanroom protocols and procedures.
• Proven ability to innovate and solve problems in a multidisciplinary setting.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
