Job Summary

As a Probation Officer with Denton County, TX, you will play a critical role in ensuring public safety and providing support to individuals on probation. This position involves supervising adults placed on probation by the courts, monitoring their adherence to probation terms, and maintaining accurate records of their activities and status.

Key Responsibilities
  • Meet with probationers in office or at their residences to ensure adherence to probation agreements and provide limited counseling as needed.
  • Confer with law enforcement and court personnel to address any issues related to probation violations.
  • Utilize computerized data entry equipment and various word processing programs to enter, store, and retrieve case file information.
  • Assess risks of further legal violations by probationers and determine the necessary level of supervision.
  • Implement appropriate reporting schedules and amend probationers' files as necessary.
Requirements

To be eligible for this position, you must have a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as criminology, corrections, counseling, law, social work, psychology, or sociology. Additionally, you must have one year of graduate study in one of these fields or one year of experience in full-time casework, counseling, or community or group work.

You must also be able to communicate effectively with probationers, law enforcement, and court personnel, and have strong analytical and problem-solving skills. If you are bilingual in Spanish and English, this is a plus.
