JOB SUMMARY
This role is responsible for assessing the type and severity of hearing loss and providing habilitation and rehabilitation services tailored for students.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1.

Analyzes assessment results alongside behavioral, social, educational, and medical data sourced from healthcare providers, families, educators, speech therapists, and other specialists to identify communication challenges linked to hearing impairments.

2.

Designs and executes preventive, habilitative, or rehabilitative services, which may include hearing aid guidance, counseling, auditory training, lip reading, speech therapy, and other treatment plans developed in collaboration with speech therapists and other professionals.

3. Refers students to medical specialists when necessary for further treatment.
4. Assesses the impact of interventions at various stages and modifies treatment plans to ensure optimal outcomes.

Keeps detailed records for all assigned students; documents treatment, responses, and progress consistently; maintains additional records as mandated by district, state, or federal regulations; ensures confidentiality is upheld.

Collaborates with healthcare providers and other professionals to gather further patient information; recommends adjustments to treatment plans; integrates treatment strategies with other components of the student's rehabilitation program; works collaboratively with students, families, educators, special education personnel, and other healthcare professionals to support the student in achieving their goals; instructs students and families on treatment procedures to be continued at home.

7. Manages the procurement, maintenance, and replacement of audiology supplies and equipment.
8. Provides guidance to assigned support staff.
9.

Acts as a resource for audiology-related issues; participates in committees (including IEP teams); serves as a consultant to classroom educators; engages in meetings as required.

10. Conducts evaluations for students in special education and formulates IEP objectives as necessary based on student needs.
11.

Contributes to the development of objectives, standards, and procedures within the district's audiology program and in the planning, execution, and assessment of audiology services offered in each school.

12.

Maintains professional development through ongoing education; ensures audiologist licensure/certification/registration is current; stays informed about relevant legislation affecting audiology practice; retains membership in professional organizations.

13. Performs additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS and DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Audiology from an accredited institution.

Required Certifications and Licenses

  • Must uphold all licenses and certifications as a condition of continued employment i.e.
  • ESA certification with SLP endorsement.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License and access to personal transportation.
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Familiarity with state and federal laws governing health care provision in public educational settings.
  • Understanding of state and federal regulations pertaining to students receiving special education services.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Competence in obtaining, clarifying, and exchanging information.
  • Skill in planning and organizing work while setting priorities.
  • Effective communication abilities with students who have special needs.
  • Capability to establish and sustain productive working relationships with diverse individuals in a multicultural, varied socio-economic environment.
Desired Licenses/Special Requirements
Proficiency in sign language is advantageous
