The Neurosurgery Surgical APRN plays a crucial role in delivering medical care under the guidance of physicians at AdventHealth Medical Group. This position involves conducting thorough patient assessments, developing treatment strategies, and providing ongoing patient education and support. The APRN will engage with complex surgical cases, offering both pre-operative and post-operative care, and may have the authority to prescribe medications in specific situations.

· Provides essential pre-operative and post-operative education to patients and their families, ensuring understanding and compliance.
· Executes therapeutic procedures, including injections, suturing, and wound care, in both clinical and hospital environments.
· Participates in hospital rounds, addressing surgical consultations and managing the care of hospitalized patients.
· Collaborates with supervising physicians on discharge planning and post-discharge follow-up to ensure seamless transitions in care.
· Acts as the surgical first assistant during procedures, supporting the surgical team and ensuring patient safety.
· Engages in hospital on-call duties, providing emergency care related to surgical specialties as needed.
· Instructs and guides patients and their families on care protocols and health management.
· Accurately documents all patient care activities in accordance with departmental standards.
· Enhances the effectiveness of the supervising physician by identifying patient care challenges and contributing to staff development through educational opportunities.
· Serves as a mentor for physician assistant students, sharing knowledge and best practices.
· Develops and implements protocols aimed at improving operational efficiencies while maintaining a focus on patient safety.
· Ensures a clean and safe working environment by adhering to established policies and regulations.
· Promotes a culture of safety and quality, safeguarding the well-being of patients and staff.
· Respects patient confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA guidelines in all interactions.
· Complies with legal and professional standards by staying informed on relevant legislation.
· Commits to ongoing professional development, fulfilling educational requirements and maintaining necessary certifications.
Qualifications:
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
· In-depth understanding of diagnostic and treatment techniques for surgical patients.
· Strong customer service orientation, with a focus on patient satisfaction and quality care.
· Excellent listening and critical thinking skills, enabling sound decision-making based on scientific evidence.
Education and Experience:
· Master’s Degree in Advanced Practice Nursing.
Preferred Experience:
· Minimum of 2 years in a neurosurgery or related surgical specialty.
· At least 2 years of experience assisting in surgical procedures.
Licensure and Certification:
· Valid ARNP License in the State of Florida.
· Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
· Ongoing education required to maintain licensure.
