About the Role

Amergis is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing quality services to students with special needs, kindergarten through grade 12.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Student Education Plans: Collaborate with parents, department team members, and other professionals to create and implement individualized education plans that cater to the unique needs of each student.
  • Support Learning for Students with Diverse Needs: Provide instruction, tutorial assistance, and consultation to students with a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities.
  • Design and Implement Instructional Strategies: Develop and implement instructional strategies that parallel the general education curriculum, ensuring that students with special needs have equal access to learning opportunities.
  • Communicate with Parents and Colleagues: Maintain open and effective communication with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other professionals to ensure that students' educational, physical, and social development needs are met.
  • Prepare Materials and Classrooms: Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities, ensuring that they are safe, accessible, and conducive to learning.
  • Coordinate IEP Implementation: Serve as the coordinator of individualized education program (IEP) implementation with general education staff, ensuring that students' IEPs are implemented effectively.
  • Monitor Student Progress: Monitor student progress, participate in review and revision of student's IEP, and maintain accurate student records.
  • Mentor and Support Teaching Assistants: Mentor and support teaching assistants who provide support to students with disabilities, ensuring that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to provide effective support.
  • Support Students in Transition: Support students in preparation for grade transitions and preparing for life skills, ensuring that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their future endeavors.
  • Assess Student Skills and Needs: Assess students' skills and educational needs, tracking student performance and making data-driven decisions to inform instruction.
  • Communicate with Colleagues: Discuss students' progress with their other teachers, ensuring that they have a comprehensive understanding of each student's needs and progress.
  • Maintain Positive Relationships: Communicate with students and their parents to maintain positive relationships, ensuring that students feel supported and valued.
  • Follow District Policies and Procedures: Follow School District policies and procedures, ensuring that students' rights and needs are protected.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree from an Accredited University: A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university is preferred.
  • Valid State Teaching Certificate: A valid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract/district regulations is required.
  • Minimum of One Year Experience in Teaching: A minimum of one year experience in teaching is preferred.
  • State Teacher Certification: State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching, Standard Secondary Teaching, and Standard Special Teaching are preferred.
  • Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1): Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) is preferred.
  • Compliance with Professional Standards: Comply with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Participation in Competency Program: Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Current CPR and TB Questionnaire: Current CPR and TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable.
  • Current Health Certificate: Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Meet Federal, State, and Local Requirements: Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful Completion of New Hire Training: Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
  • Understand Patient Confidentiality and HIPAA: Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Effective Communication and Computer Proficiency: Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language required.
  • Computer Proficiency: Computer proficiency required.
  • Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.
