As a Hospice Nurse Specialist, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing home-based care to patients with a focus on quality of life
  • Working with an interdisciplinary team to carry out the patient's plan of care
  • Performing patient assessments, checking vitals, evaluating breathing, monitoring pain, administering prescribed medication and treatments
  • Ensuring accessibility of medical equipment, prescribed oxygen, medication and other supplies
  • Educating family on the patient's prognosis, changes in care plan, medication and hospice goals
  • Taking a holistic approach to care that engages the patient's mind, body, spirit and family

To be successful as a Hospice Nurse Specialist, you will need:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Licensed to practice as an RN in Kansas with an active and good-standing license
  • Twelve (12) months of accumulated experience as a registered nurse within the last five (5) years or, if no experience within the last five (5) years, evidence of current (within the last 12 months) clinical knowledge as deemed appropriate by the DHCS
  • If a new graduate, 1200 verified hours of employment as a graduate or registered nurse within the last twelve (12) months or evidence of completion of a company-approved Preceptor Program
  • One (1) year of hospice care experience preferred
