Job Title: Registered Nurse - Infection Preventionist

PruittHealth is seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team as an Infection Preventionist. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the infection prevention program in our healthcare center.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as a subject matter expert and resource for infection prevention and control measures, including identification of infectious disease processes.
  • Provide consultation and expertise to partners and residents in infection prevention and control practices.
  • Assess the immunization status of residents and partners, administer vaccines, and educate on immunizations.
  • Complete physical assessments and health histories according to TB program guidelines.
  • Provide counseling and education on laboratory testing, follow-up x-rays, physical examination, and therapy for TB prevention and disease.
  • Refer residents and partners for follow-up to outside agencies for continuity in care.
  • Maintain current knowledge with CMS, state, and federal regulatory agencies and public health guidelines.
  • Review the risk of blood-borne pathogens, OSHA standards, and exposure control plan to ensure implementation of best practices.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate infection prevention and control goals, measurable objectives, and action plans.
  • Provide expert knowledge, guidance, and perform routine risk assessments in infection prevention and control.
  • Participate and support infection prevention initiatives on center, region, and division levels.
  • Maintain records and reports in accordance with organization standards.
Antibiotic Stewardship Program:
  • Develop and evaluate goals, measurable objectives, and action plans for the HCC antibiotic stewardship program.
  • Improve the therapeutic use of antimicrobials through education of clinicians and prescribers, guidelines, and data reporting.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy services to identify and facilitate plans of correction using evidence-based practice interventions.
Surveillance and Compliance:
  • Conduct ongoing healthcare-wide surveillance of healthcare-associated infections through collection, review, analysis, and interpretation of data.
  • Track and trend surveillance to identify opportunities for improvement based on data analysis.

Requirements:

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or professional training in medical technology, microbiology, epidemiology, or other related training.
  • Minimum of three years of clinical experience in an acute care or long-term care setting or disease surveillance in public health.
  • Previous experience in teaching and curriculum development in clinical instruction.
  • Current, unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse (RN).

Additional Qualifications:

  • Completion of specialized training in Infection Prevention and Control by either CDC Nursing Home Infection Preventionist Web-based Training Course and/or University of North Carolina Spice Training as a condition of continued employment within three months of employment.
